GoWhere Guides publishes directories, and most directories on the internet are bad. They are scraped from other sites, padded with venues that closed years ago, and written for search engines rather than readers. Ours are built differently, and the difference comes down to four rules.
Each guide covers a single thing people search for, so the whole site is relevant to the visitor, not one page of it.
Every listing is researched from the venue itself: address, prices, opening hours and a real photo. If we cannot verify it, it does not go up.

Owners list for free, claim their page and keep it current. Featured placement and sponsorship fund the work.
Before a venue goes live on any GoWhere guide it needs a verified street address, working contact details, opening hours, the prices or key facts that matter for that subject (court rates, drop-in class prices, happy-hour timings, dress codes), and a real photograph of the place. If we cannot find one of those, the venue waits until we can.
Venues in this region open, close and change hands quickly. Each guide is reviewed on a rolling basis, owners can claim and update their own page, and readers can report changes from any listing. Every page shows when it was last checked.
Listings are free and always will be. The guides are funded by featured placement, which is clearly labelled, and by sponsorship from brands that fit the subject. Featured placement never changes whether a venue is listed or what we say about it.
A general city guide has to be good at everything, and ends up good at nothing. A site that only covers rooftop bars can go deep: every bar, every city, every detail that matters. It also means a visitor who lands from a search is on a site that is entirely about the thing they wanted. That focus is the whole idea behind GoWhere Guides.
